Wings Devotional
Part 2
by Maureen Pranghofer
Deuteronomy 22:5
5 A woman must not put on men's clothing, and a man must not wear women's clothing. Anyone who does this is detestable in the sight of the Lord your God.
If you haven’t read part 1 of this devotional it might not make sense to start here.
I was discussing my journey in reading the above verse. After thinking about how Jesus handled sinners I went, where I often do, to the commentaries. I fully realize these are just people’s opinions but many times they have historical information which puts things into a context I’d never considered.
And that is exactly what happened when I studied this verse further. The reason God asked people not to wear clothing of the opposite sex was because people who believed in other gods did this in their worship.
God never wants us to engage in practices of what could be related to idolatry. Constantly throughout His Word our loving Father keeps saying, I’m the one, the true God.”
And so, that’s what its about, not judging people who for some reason aren’t comfortable with their sexuality, but for warning people to not do anything which might take them away from the one who can save them.
Father, when I bring in my perspective before consulting You, help me always to remember to turn to You first, in Jesus name, Amen.
