Our Accomplishments
Wings Outreach is proud of our track record in making many facilities accessible to the disabled. Among them:
- Curb cuts at malls and restaurants
- Handicapped parking at malls, restaurants and churches
- Public restrooms
- Auto-open doors
- Wheelchair friendly sidewalks, churches and public facilities
- Hearing impaired services
Wings Outreach was instrumental in expanding the law to license vans as well as cars for handicapped parking privileges.
Wings Outreach influenced lawmakers to pass legislation making it a $200 fineable offense for an unlicensed or untabbed vehicle to park in a handicapped parking zone.
Wings Outreach was instrumental in getting churches listed among other new government and public structures required to be wheelchair accessible in Minnesota. We are indebted to Governor Rudy Perpich for his forward thinking in applying the Americans with Disabilities Act to churches, as many other states did not.
Wings Outreach sponsors an Annual Spring Retreat, Summer Picnics, Annual "Walk or Roll-A-Thon", Fall Ethnic Foods Banquet, Christmas Party, and other fellowship events.
Wings Outreach provides speakers for schools, service clubs, and church groups; chaplains for hospital and family visitation and clergy to conduct funerals and other official functions.
Wings Outreach teams up with Christian League for the Handicapped of Minneapolis, and works in concert with the Minenapolis/St. Paul chapter of Joni and Friends, to enhance the helping influence of all three groups.
