Prophets and Leaders

1 Kings 16:1 NLT

1 This message from the Lord was delivered to King Baasha by the prophet Jehu son of Hanani:

This is really a dull verse. A prophet no one has ever heard of delivers a message to a king who was not famous. So what?

Well, when I read this verse what caught my attention was that a prophet was going, again, to a leader. I’d recently been reading in both Jeremiah and Isaiah

And noticed that they were often both speaking to leaders. In fact, when Jeremiah was put into prison (Jeremiah 32) it was because he had been telling the King what was going to happen because they were not obeying the Lord.

But today, when I think of prophets I don’t hear about them because they are speaking with the president or other leaders. I hear about them because they posted something on You Tube or social media to anyone who would listen.

I’m not saying these are false prophets but just wondering, what would things be like if our leaders had trusted people who could honestly tell them what messages the Lord has given them?

Father, help bring people who are true and who share what You have given them with our leaders, in Jesus name, Amen.
